Local families wanted to invest in solar energy, but rooftop panels just didn’t make sense for their homes. Now they’re about to get power from the sun, thanks to our new shared solar project.

Great to see solar energy projects becoming increasingly more popular in Madison! Keep up the good work.
We have supported the MGE wind power project from it’s inception and would be interested in doing the same for the solar project. Great idea for a project at scale.
Are you considering asking local businesses to participate.
In my neighborhood, we have Home Depot, SubZero and Pacific Cycle.
That would be great.
Thank
Looks very good. Are there any opportunities for geothermal?
Excellent program! We have either already signed up or will be doing so soon.
How can a home owner find out more information regarding the cost of signing up for shared solar. It sounds like a great idea to me but I will need some data to sell the idea to my husband.
Interesting idea, looked into the project before it filled. I’d ultimately be more interested in a community owned and utility maintained shared solar array. So that my investment would be an investment that I had an ownership stake in. Will definitely keep an eye out for future opportunities though, there is definitely a market in Madison for this sort of thing.
Way to go MGE! Another great program.
Good movie. Makes me glad I participated.
We love the shared solar project! Signed up and waiting for the panels to begin working for our community. Thanks, MG & E
I’m also a Madison resident who has looked into solar but found out it may not work due to trees. This sounds great, and anyone who is interested enough to watch the video is probably very positive about it overall, but how about a few more specific details? Less promo, more info!
How about covering the giant parking lot at west town mall with solar panels on some sort of raised structure, so cars can be parked in their shade summertime?
Otherwise shared solar is a good idea. My wife and a will have a talk about it and probably join.
It is not clear to me if this will raise or lower one’s monthly electric bill.
Excellent idea and makes more sense than individual homes having their own systems. This was the panels can be more efficient at producing solar energy. I’m in.
Shared solar sounds like a great idea. I related to the guy with the mature trees he didn’t want to cut or prune back since we have the same situation. And trees are a great way to reduce use of the AC. I hope shared solar is an option for me in the near future.
I’m very interested in participating in Shared Solar and am sorry that there’s a waiting list. But it’s good to see that there’s so much enthusiasm for it in Madison. Please keep expanding this technology so we can help save this precious planet we all call home.
We are participating. I would be very interested in understanding how the terms were arrived at. What is the basis for the fee that I paid upfront ? How was the price per kilowatt from the array determined ? How as the lenght of time during which the kilowatt price is frozen determined ? Based on your data what is the return on investment for the average participant ? I would have joined regardless of the economics but I would be insightful to know more.
Seems like a good option for many. I would like to see some cost comparisons. I have been a wind power subscriber for many years.
I’ve already signed up for this program, as I did for the wind power program when it was introduced. It is one step more away from fossil fuel use, I hope.
It’s great to see MG&E responding to public concerns and needs. Solar is a sustainable direction for growth.
I love that MGE is moving into more forms of renewable energy. I will be checking into signing up for shared solar.
I hope that MGE keeps expanding its shared solar.
Looks interesting. I have big trees in my yard and don’t want to lose them, especially after spending money to save my large ash tree.
Help us become more mindful and efficient and save the planet Earth and keep our Sun Rising
Thanks to the kind folks in Middleton for the great location. Looks like a great project!
This is excellent! As one of the folks said, it’s good to have a diverse portfolio of energy, and this is one that is environmentally friendly. Good job, MGE!
Informative video.
It made me smile.
A good way to take advantage of many buildings. Like the idea and have been interested in solar and how to work when trees are in the way.
Super cool!! A shared Solar array is really an awesome idea. Because I’m also concerned about renewable energy.
Looking forward to this happening. Glad I could get in on a share of it.
Like others, we have participated in the MGE wind power program since its implementation here, and am curious to learn more about the costs of the shared solar power as compared to the cost of the wind power. We currently pay the equivalent of 100% wind power for our electricity use. I would love to know which is more cost effective and which is more sustainable.
What a great solution for those of us whose roofs are not ideal for panels!
What a great solution for those whose roofs are not ideal for panels!
What a great way to use our resource, nice to have choice to have the solar panels on your own roof or join a share solar. I’m interested, where do I begin?
Nice. I’d consider participating in something like this.
Thank you for your efforts with “shared solar” installation and informing the community of such. Appreciate it! Keep up the good work!
Great information. Thank you.
This is fantastic!! we want more to eliminate the waiting list!!
Hmm I posted first but it’s gone…I love solar and wish I could access it but can’t due to cost. I always envisioned my roof lined with panels but the ‘by proxy’ initiative is very cool
Love these videos. I think MG & E is doing great work! Thank you.
nice video; I wish I could use small solar light for our shed but we have numerous big oak trees and no direct sun.
I think this is a great idea, especially in a city like Madison where there are so many beautiful old trees. I wonder if businesses could also get involved by leasing their roof space?
Great program thanks for making it a reality in our community MG&E!
I signed up for shared solar
