Wonderful and interesting video. Bob and Irv Goodman have done such good here in City of Madison. Haven’t been in the Goodman Center yet, but hope to get there sometime.

It goes to show that renovating an old building that wasn’t designed to be energy efficient takes great care. Metal and stone are great conductors of heat so it’s important to seal these as “leaks.”
It also goes to show that electronic controls that are tailored to occupancy can save a great amount of energy and money and should be an integral part of any renovation!
Bravo to those who had the foresight to plan and implement this project. It’s a wonderful neighborhood resource and uniquely “Madison!”

I have biked past many times and was always impressed from the outside, but the facility is really an excellent example of what can be done instead of just replacing older buildings. I think most people don’t realize the huge impact of repurposing an old building VS building a new one. Every piece of the old building that is reused is one less piece going to a landfill or one less item that needs to be extracted from our earth’s limited natural resources. The aesthetics of a repurposed building like to Goodman Center are very unique and act like icing on the conservation cake. When I walk through the Goodman Center I experience the harmonious fusion of past and present which makes me feel optimistic about the future. If it can be done in a building surely it can be done in our community as well.

It is so cool to see the building that once used by my family’s business back in the early 1900’s, the Steinle Turret Lathe Co. I have been in the building many times. It’s wonderful that it was refurbished rather torn down and made into a energy efficient building and used by so many.
